Ok, so I saw this on a couple other blogs….. What were you doing???
20 Years ago…… I was 15, an exchange student in Portugal. It was the first time that I had ever left home by myself. I was chubby, awkward and looked like a boy. I was totally into John Hughes movies, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Alison Moyet, 10,000 Maniacs, musicals, signing and finding out about boys. I was a little bit of a geek, but that was ok. I had the greatest group of friends, and we had just started really hanging out together. We used to go to Westwood and walk around for hours- making lots on music at Recording Star…..Sheesh.
10 Years Ago…..We were married for about 6 months. I had just graduated from college, Michael was knee deep in his Masters Thesis at MIT. We were living in this sweet little one bedroom apartment in Boston right around the corner from Fenway Park. This was one of the sweetest times in my life. We were poor, and used to have date nights at Star Market doing our grocery shopping. We were just getting used to the idea of sharing our lives together. We ate pizza from Canestaro and shared huge bowls of Ramen at Kotubukia.
5 Years ago….. I had just given birth to Sammy, our second child in May. I was getting used to having 2 kids and dealing with a baby who was severely constipated. I was totally emotional and drained. We were living in El Segundo with the world’s best neighbors and a great neighborhood to walk around.
3 Years ago….Jack had just finished Kindergarten. Sammy had gone to pre-school and loved it. I had lost 30 lbs on the South Beach Diet. We were planning a trip to Wyoming with Michael’s parents. I had really been talking with the Lord about adoption and having a third child. Michael and I began the discussion about having another child. We spent a lot of time thinking and praying about it and made the decision in Wyoming to begin the process of adopting a baby girl from China. The boys rode horses for the first time. It was awesome.
1 Year ago….We had come home from China with our daughter in April. We were getting used to being a family of 5. I was knee deep in diapers, crawling, teething and all that goes with it. My boys were active and challenging, and we spent a lot of time at the pool. We didn’t go on vacations this summer….but we had a great time.
Yesterday……I took Sammy to his last day of ….sniff….pre-school. Then last night we all went to Sam’s graduation. It was bittersweet and funny and just awesome. He sang his heart out and hammed it up. Even his sweet friend Yuki, who is normally very nervous about doing anything like this, sang with GUSTO on the last song. My in-laws and my sister, husband and neice came. It was great!!
Today…..Katie for some UNKNOWN reason woke up at 5 am. Would not go back to sleep. So we hung out, watched Barney and then Michael let me doze a bit longer. The kids and I went to the Y where Yvonne kicked my Tush in body conditioning class. We then went shopping for Father’s Day and came home. Nana came and took the boys to the pool while Katie is napping. I need to do laundry, but I am online.
Tomorrow……We are going on a picnic in the morning and then probably to the beach or pool in the afternoon. Whew….
Ok, so I tag….Becky, Joannah and Elizabeth!!
